Keen-eyed security guard leads police to robbery suspect
OXNARD, Calif. May 18 2019 – Oxnard police arrested a man who allegedly tried to rob a man while the victim was sitting in his car in Oxnard Thursday morning.
At around 9:45 a.m., a security officer contacted Oxnard police and reported that a suspect was checking car door handles on A Street.
Officers approached the suspect, Alejandro Pineda, 28, near the intersection of Seventh Street and A Street.
Pineda was near the passenger side of a parked car with his head ducked into the vehicle.
The registered owner of the vehicle was seated in the driver’s seat and appeared to be in distress, according to officials.
The victim told officers that Pineda opened the door to his car and threatened to harm him if he didn’t give him his money.
After interviewing the victim, officers determined that Pineda was attempting to rob him.
Pineda was arrested and could face charges of felony attempted robbery and misdemeanor vehicle tampering.
