Jury dismisses lawsuit against restaurant, security guard for fight
WEST POINT, Miss. May 24 2019 A jury voted 10-2 that Huddlehouse and the security guard was not responsible for the injuries of two men who were assaulted on August 22, 2014.
Ralph Weems IV and David Knighten filed a lawsuit againt the local restaurant and security guard for negligence.
Defense attorney for Litco Petroleum, John Brad, said their position during the trial was that Ralph Weems III created and caused the event that led to the assault.
Litco Petroleum owned and operated the Huddlehouse in West Point back in 2014.
Brad said around 2 a.m. , Weems, Knighten and their friend went to a Wafflehouse and got into a fight.
Police officers showed up and told them to go home. Instead they went down the road to the Huddlehouse where they continued to argue with a man from the Wafflehouse, said Brad.
The security guard in the restaurant reportedly told them to leave. Brad said once they were outside, several men assaulted Weems and Knighten causing them to sustain injuries.
Ralph Weems IV filed a lawsuit against Huddlehouse and the security guard for negligence resulting in Weems III and Knighten’s injuries.
The trial started on May 6 and lasted for 11 days.
The jury delivered their verdict on Tuesday night, dismissing the case against Huddlehouse and the security guard.
