Mall security and police arrest 5 at Killeen Mall after near riot breaks out
KILLEEN, TX July 18 2017
The Killeen Police Department said they got a call at around 6:15 p.m. of a large fight of juveniles and young adults in the food court of the Killeen Mall.
Police say it was about 30 to 40 people that were involved.
Mall security and off duty Killeen officers that were at the mall tried to clear the fight. When that didn’t work, they moved them outside to get them off the property.
Upon arrival, officers said some of them dispersed but some of them continued to fight.
Witnesses told police that the people fighting had fire arms and that they had heard shots fired, but Killeen Police confirms shots were not fired.
Officers say when they got there someone pointed out a vehicle to them and they pulled it over.
The 5 people of that car were taken into custody. While officers were arresting them and inspecting their vehicle, another 3 males walked up to the officers and were also taken into custody. A total of 8 people were arrested, 4 adults and 4 juveniles. All of those arrested were male except for one female.
Officers said they stopped numerous vehicles and recovered two handguns, one which was reported stolen.
Police say they will be charged with riot. The female will also be charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon.
No major injuries were reported
