Security officer finds deceased man under a pile of concrete material
GREELEY, Colo. June 22 2019 A security officer discovered a deceased man lying under a pile of concrete material and called 911.
Authorities said that the 24-year-old man died in an accident at an asphalt plant in northeast Colorado.
The Greeley Tribune reports that the firefighters responded about 9 p.m. Tuesday to the accident at the Martin Marietta plant in Greeley.
The Weld County Coroner on Wednesday identified the victim as 24-year-old Victor J. Rodriguez Gutierrez.
He was working at the facility when large pieces of concrete being removed from a truck fell on his neck and chest, the release from the coroner said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Weld County Sheriff’s Deputy Julio Sherman says the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
A statement from Martin Marietta reads:
On Tuesday evening, June 18, after Martin Marietta’s 35th St. facility had closed, a security guard noticed that a dump truck belonging to Northern Colorado Concrete had been parked near a pile of concrete recycling material for an extended time. When the security guard went to investigate, the truck was running, with the bed up as if it was dumping, so he went to the rear of it looking for the driver. When he got to the rear of the truck, he saw a pile of concrete rubble with a body in it. The security guard called 911 immediately and the Sheriff’s office responded. The deceased is believed to have been the driver of the Northern Colorado Concrete dump truck.
Martin Marietta extends its deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased driver.
