Security officer robbed of sight-suspect arrested
Visalia California June 24 2019 A Visalia security guard was attacked while on-duty early Sunday morning. During the alleged assault, the suspect stole a valuable piece of property — the guard’s glasses.
Around 1 a.m. on Sunday, officers were called to the 600 block of East Tulare Avenue, near Faith Community Church of God. The suspect, later identified as Jimmy Kuper, 30, was accused of breaking into an office in the area.
When officers arrived, they spoke to an on-duty security guard. The man told police he was inside his office when Kuper forced his way into the building.
The security guard quickly pushed Kuper out of the door, Sgt. Mike Short said. During the struggle, Kuper took the guard’s glasses off of his face.
The security guard dialed 911 and then went outside to try to get his glasses back. Kuper was waiting outside with a knife and refused to return the guard’s glasses, Short said.
The guard went back into the office and waited for police.
When officers arrived, they questioned Kuper and returned the guard’s glasses.
Kuper was arrested and booked at the Tulare County Pretrial Facility on suspicion of robbery. He’s expected to be in court Tuesday morning for an arraignment.
