Farmington doctor arrested on accusations of sexually assaulting woman in his office
FARMINGTON NM July 24 2017 — A Farmington lawyer said he is representing two alleged victims of a former San Juan Regional Medical Center doctor recently arrested and accused of sexually abusing a female patient multiple times last year
Dr. Alan Emamdee, 40, was arrested Thursday afternoon by detectives for the Farmington Police Department on six counts of criminal sexual penetration in the first degree and five counts of criminal sexual contact, according to a Farmington police press release.
He is currently incarcerated at the San Juan County Adult Detention Center on a no-bond hold.
Emamdee was a psychiatrist at the San Juan Health Partners Behavioral Health office along with his wife, Dr. Nausika Prifti. She is no longer employed at the hospital, according to San Juan Regional Medical Center spokeswoman Laura Werbner.
He is accused of sexually assaulting a 40-year-old female patient in his office on “numerous occasions” between April and September 2016, according to the press release.
A statement issued by San Juan Regional stated an investigation is underway and the hospital is cooperating with law enforcement. The hospital is encouraging all employees to cooperate with the investigation.
“This was an important investigation that took several months to complete and involved the assistance of San Juan Regional Medical Center,” Farmington Police Chief Steve Hebbe said in the press release.
Attorney Steve Murphy said he is representing two of the alleged female victims related to the investigation and believes there are possibly more alleged victims out there.
He also believes San Juan Regional knew about the allegations against Emamdee and failed to act.
Werbner declined to comment on Murphy’s remarks, stating it be inappropriate for the hospital to comment on pending police/criminal investigations.
The investigation into Emamdee was prompted by two complaints Farmington police received in March, according to the press release. The complaints accused Emamdee of inappropriate behavior with his clients.
Farmington police are encouraging patients who have concerns about appointments with Emamdee to contact its detective division at 505-599-1005.
Murphy also said any female patients who believe they did not receive proper medical treatment from Emamdee are welcome to contact his law firm, Titus and Murphy Law Firm.
