Pipe bombs detonated at Pickens County SC courthouse
PICKENS, S.C. July 9 2019 Police reported that two homemade pipe bombs were detonated near the Pickens County Courthouse Sunday night.
The Pickens City Police Department said the remnants of the two devices were found on the side of the building near the HVAC units.
The devices were “intentionally placed” on the exterior un of the courthouse, police stated in a press release.
The explosion caused damage to glass windows on the lower level of the building where police believe the devices were placed.
According to authorities, the incident happened around 11:15 p.m. when the courthouse was closed. There were no injuries from the blast because the building was unoccupied.
Police say the courthouse is expected to resume normal business hours and is open to the public.
The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad, the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office and federal agents from ATF are assisting with the investigation according to police.
There have been no arrests made at this time.
