A shop worker has told how a security officer at Lidl was taken to hospital after being injured while trying to stop a thief.
The woman, who did not want to be named, said that the man was left with head injuries after an incident at the Lidl supermarket in Upperton Road, Leicester, on Monday July 1.
She said: “I was told the security officer ran out into the car park to try to stop a shoplifter.
“The shoplifter got into a car.
“The guard somehow tried to stop the car driving off but was hurt. I heard he banged his head on the pavement.
“When I went into the store the other day a member of staff told me that the guard had suffered head injuries in the incident.”
Police have confirmed they are hunting a hit and run driver.
The injured man was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary with head injuries but has since been discharged.
Police closed the road off in both directions to allow them to examine the scene.
