Chico police shot and killed man who stabbed security officer, slashed police
CHICO, Calif. July 25 2017
A man was shot and killed by Chico police after he slashed two police officers, the police department said.
The suspect broke into the Mid Valley Title and Escrow Company on Main Street in Chico at 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
The alarm sounded, and an armed security guard went to the business, KCRA’s NBC affiliate KNVN reported.
The suspect stabbed the security guard in the arm, and the guard fired his handgun, but the suspect ran from the area, according to investigators.
Police searched the area and found a broken window. They saw a man acting violent in the bathroom, and officers tried to talk to him. However, he came at them and slashed two officers in the face and neck, the police department said.
One officer opened fire, hitting the suspect. Medical personnel gave him first aid, but he was pronounced dead at the scene about 30 minutes after the incident began.
It is unclear what type of weapon the man used in the stabbings. The suspect’s identity has not been released.
Both officers were treated at Enloe Medical Center. They have since been released.
