Regina Canada July 14 2019
A 15-year-old boy is in custody facing an assault with a weapon charge after an early morning altercation in Regina.
Police say two other boys were walking along the 2400 block of Broad Street around 4:45 a.m. CST when the incident took place.
The suspect is believed to have been following the two other boys in a cab when he allegedly jumped out and assaulted one of the boys near the front lawn of the local CBC building.
The boy not involved in the altercation called police. Then an off-duty security guard who was in the area intervened and took down the boy and restrained him, police said.
When officers arrived, the off-duty guard was standing over the boy, who was handcuffed. There was also a baton on the ground nearby.
The youth is also charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace and will appear in court Aug. 29.
