Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg security and EMT’s respond to fatal workplace accident
Lawrenceburg, Ind. August 2 2019– A Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg employee died in a workplace accident on Saturday, July 27.
Wesley Owen Stokes, 55, of Lawrenceburg, died after being pinned between the bucket of an electric boom lift and a concrete ceiling of an outbuilding at the riverboat casino facility, according to Dearborn County Coroner Steve Callahan.
Security officers and EMTs attempted to revive Stokes at the scene, but their efforts were unsuccessful, according to a casino spokesperson.
The coroner said it is unknown if Stokes may have suffered a medical episode just prior to the accident, so his death remains under investigation. It is also unknown what may have caused to bucket of the lift to raise and pin Stokes against the ceiling.
Stokes was the facilities manager at the casino, according to his obituary.
“All of our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased, and grief counselors have been made available for our employees,” said Jeff Morris, Vice President of Public Affairs & Government Relations for Hollywood Casino parent company Penn National Gaming.
