Thief grabs machete at Ventura Harbor and starts swinging at security
VENTURA, Calif. Aug 25 2019 – Ventura police arrested a man who they say was stealing docking materials at the Ventura Harbor early Friday morning.
Patrol officers responded to a call around 5:10 a.m. regarding a robbery in progress at one of the boating docks in the harbor.
At arrival, a security guard said the suspect was in the process of taking docking materials worth thousands of dollars.
The security guard confronted the man as he was leaving with the stolen items. In response, the suspect armed himself with a machete and began swinging at the security guard.
The security guard backed away and the suspect fled the area with the stolen items.
Responding officers searched the area and located the suspect, who was still in possession of the stolen items and the machete, at a nearby parking lot.
The suspect was identified as Samuel Bingham, 46.
Bingham was booked into the Ventura County Jail on a complaint of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.
Bingham was also found in the Ventura County Superior Court’s case inquiry system with previous convictions since 2013.
He was previously convicted three times for possession of drug paraphernalia, once for possession of a controlled substance and once for possession of a concealed dagger.
