Man files lawsuit against Christiana Care Health System, security, for beating
WILMINGTON, Del. Aug 6 2017 A man is suing after a videotaped incident in which he was beaten and kicked while restrained at a Delaware hospital.
The News Journal reports that Terrance Carter claims in the complaint filed in Delaware Superior Court that the four private security officers at Wilmington Hospital assaulted, neglected and intentionally inflicted emotional distress in February.
In the suit against Christiana Care Health System, the hospital’s parent organization, Carter alleges that guards used excessive force, violating state and federal laws.
The newspaper obtained video that shows a man handcuffed to a wall being struck while four guards try to restrain him on a bench.
System spokeswoman Karen Browne says the hospital took swift action in firing the guards and is hiring new leadership.
