Heroic security guard saves trapped driver’s life – dousing flames to stop car blowing up
Chester England Sept 8 2019
A hero security guard has told how he saved a woman’s life – using a fire extinguisher to stop her car blowing up as she lay trapped inside it following a crash.
The guard – known only as Hank – told how he leapt into action after hearing a loud bang outside Chester’s Mecca Bingo where he works – tonight at about 9.50pm.
Hank, 36, told how he saw people running from the building to SuperTrees roundabout shouting ‘its going to catch fire’.
As he got closer Hank said he could smell fuel – and seeing fuel leaking from the car he sprang into action dousing “heavily smoking” parts of the white Nissan Duke before they ignited into flames.
As he held back the oncoming flames he saw bystanders pull the woman from the car before firefighters arrived on the scene.
He said: “While I was putting out the fire bystanders were pulling the woman out of the car.
“It was quite scary approaching the car because heavy smoke was coming out of it and fuel was leaking – it could have caught fire at any time.
“While I was putting out the fire bystanders were pulling the woman out of the car – she was conscious and didn’t seem top have any injuries.
“At the time I just thought ‘I’ve got to get out there’ because I was really worried the car was going to blow up.”
Hank told how the dramatic rescue seemed to go by in a flash and emergency services arrived “very quickly”.
He said: “By the time the fire engines arrived I’d put the fire out but I was just hoping anyone in the car was Ok.
“I just wanted to thank the emergency services and bystanders for acting so quickly and rushing to help.”
