California security officer shot to death
Los Angeles CA Sept 19 2019 Police said they arrested a Simi Valley man last week that they suspect of shooting to death a Granada Hills woman as she returned home from work in July.
Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery Homicide division served search warrants in Simi Valley, Granada Hills and Mission Hills last Thursday as they looked for Javier Flores.
In a written statement, detectives said they believe Flores was the man driving a black truck through an alley behind homes on the 16600 block of Chatsworth Street late on July 22.
When 24-year-old Cheyenne Brown arrived home from her job as a security guard, Flores gunned her down near her car, police said. Brown left behind a 2-year-old daughter, family members said.
On Thursday, they found Flores at his home on Jefferson Way in Simi Valley at around 10:30 a.m., according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department booking records.
He was arrested and later booked in the Inmate Reception Center in downtown Los Angeles as he awaits a court date.
Robbery Homicide detectives did not say what the locations were that they searched in Granada Hills and Mission Hills.
Also unclear Tuesday was whether Flores knew Brown. Detectives did not respond to a request for comment.
Brown was returning home at around 10:25 p.m. when the black truck pulled up from behind, according to security camera footage of the shooting. The driver got out and fired at the woman as she sat in the driver’s seat, then fled.
Her grandfather ran out of their home to the alley, and found Brown lying on the ground. He performed CPR on her, but she died.
“She apparently died instantly,” Bill Schroeder, the grandfather, said the time.
Friends and family of Brown said she was a prolific roller skater who often practiced at Northridge Skateland as a teenager, and later worked there.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment about whether charges have been filed against Flores.
