Off-duty Alabama security guard shot to death during domestic dispute
Midfield Alabama October 6 2019
A family dispute led to a deadly shooting in the front yard of a Midfield home Saturday morning.
Midfield police were dispatched about 8:20 a.m. to a home in the 1500 block of Carol Circle. When they arrived on the scene, they found a black female unresponsive in the front yard.
She was pronounced dead on the scene and police believe her children witnessed the deadly shooting.
Police said the victim, who was dressed in her security guard uniform, went to a relative’s home where her children live. She tried to get in the front door, but those inside did not want her to come in.
“It started at the door and worked its way out into the yard,’’ said Sgt. Jesse Bell.
A male family member – believed to possibly be an uncle – then shot the woman, police said. Det. Michael Jeffries said the woman was in full security guard uniform. He said they did not know if the victim had a gun but said they did not recover one at the scene other than the weapon belonging to the suspect.
The suspect was taken into custody at the scene and was cooperative with investigators.
Police are obtaining a search warrant from the home’s security video and are interviewing multiple witnesses.
Dozens of family members were at the scene, but they declined to comment.
The fatal shooting is Midfield’s second homicide of the year.
In all of Jefferson County, there have been 122 homicides in 2019.
