15-year-old Kansas middle school student arrested for bomb threat
DODGE CITY, Kan. October 13 2019
Police say they’ve arrested a 15-year-old boy for threatening to blow up a southwest Kansas middle school.
The incident was reported shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday. Dodge City police learned a 13-year-old girl was in class at the middle school when she got a call from a blocked number.
“The male caller started using profanity, and the student hung up the phone,” police said on Facebook. “The blocked caller immediately called back, and the female student put the phone on speaker for the teacher to listen. During that second call, the unknown male caller stated that he was going to blow up the school.”
Officers located the teen caller at his Dodge City home just after 8 p.m. Charges for aggravated criminal threat, a felony, will be filed with the Ford County attorney’s office.
“The officers with the DCPD did a great job utilizing their resources to bring this case to a conclusion within four hours of receiving this report. While they were able to do this quickly, every second counts in matters of public safety, and witness cooperation is vital to the investigative process. We, as a community, should work together to ensure the safety of our children.”
The incident comes two days after police say a 14-year-old Dodge City High School student made a threat to shoot up the high school and mentioned the different weapons he would use. He was later arrested at his home.
So far this school year, Dodge City police have arrested seven people for threats of school violence.
“This is a topic that we take very seriously and will continue to charge anyone who makes these types of threats.”
