Man allegedly stole $7K worth of merchandise from Ventura Kohl’s
VENTURA CA October 24 2019 – An Oxnard man who allegedly stole more than $7,000 worth of merchandise during multiple trips to the Ventura Kohl’s store was recently arrested, authorities said.
An investigation started last month when the department store chain’s loss prevention officers started monitoring security footage, the Ventura Police Department reported Monday. The store is located at 4950 Telephone Road, in the shopping center off Highway 101 co-anchored by Barnes & Noble.
Video from Sept. 7 and Sept. 26 reportedly showed a man take a “large amount of property” from the store and flee in a vehicle, according to the police account. Store officers reported the incidents to police.
Ventura police detectives with the street crimes unit identified the suspect as Enrique Campos Lopez, 36.
Lopez allegedly returned to the Kohl’s on Oct. 3, took more property and fled before the store’s loss prevention team could detain him, authorities said. On Oct. 11, Ventura police detectives began to actively search for Lopez after getting an arrest warrant.
Ventura officers, assisted by Oxnard police, found Lopez near South Rose Avenue and took him into custody. He was later charged by the Ventura County District Attorney’s office with three counts of felony grand theft, records show.
On Monday, Lopez pleaded not guilty to all three counts in Ventura County Superior Court, records show. He remained in jail Monday night with bail set at $10,000.
