Man who got into a fight with a security guard at Georgia State University off-campus apartment dies
ATLANTA GA October 29 2019 — Atlanta Police continue to investigate how a man died during a fight with a security guard at a Georgia State University housing center.
On Sunday at approximately 6:30 a.m., officers responded to an unresponsive person call at 112 Courtland Street NE.
The apartment building, One12 Courtland, is not affiliated with the University and is off-campus.
Detectives responded and determined that the victim, who was not a student – but was staying with a student – was “drinking heavily with friends.”
When they returned to the building, the man got into a verbal argument with security that escalated into a physical fight.
During the altercation, police said, the male victim became unconscious and security started CPR.
He was taken to Grady Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Several witnesses are being interviewed, as well as security staff members.
The cause and manner of death will be determined during an autopsy.
