Reading PA school security officer injured during student fight
Reading PA Nov 22 2019 Police and ambulance crews were dispatched Tuesday morning to the former Thomas Ford Magnet School in Reading for reports of a fistfight in the building that resulted in a security guard being injured.
The security officer was taken from the scene in an ambulance. Initial reports indicated several students were fighting, prompting several city police cars along with a Reading Fire Department ambulance to respond and triggering a lockdown of the building along Museum Road.
The part of the building where the fight occurred houses the Red Knight Accelerated Academies, Thomas Ford Campus. The accelerated academies are for students who thrive in a smaller educational setting, giving them a chance to catch up on credits and work on any deficits.
District spokeswoman Kristin Boyd Edwards said it turned out that three students were involved in the actual fight, with two other students attempting to intervene, as was the security guard who was injured.
The fight stemmed from an earlier dispute among the participants in their neighborhood, Boyd Edwards said.
The security guard was seen being carried on a gurney by medics to an ambulance.
Boyd Edwards said the district had not received a report on the man’s condition, but his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
It was determined the fight was unrelated to a pair of fights that occurred Monday afternoon outside Reading High School’s Geigle Complex around dismissal that left three security guards injured.
The security officers suffered cuts and bruises but did not need to be transported to a hospital by ambulance
