Security officer shoots suspect in murder at Louisville hookah lounge
LOUISVILLE, Ky. December 22 2019 Shively Police say the owner of a hookah lounge was shot and killed after a confrontation with a customer.
According to Lt. Col. Josh Myers, it happened around midnight at Retta’s Lounge in the 2700 block of South 7th Street Road. That’s near Wathen Lane. Myers said the suspect, 33-year-old Lance Bowman, had a verbal confrontation with the owner and was told to leave.
“The suspect then was attempting to leave, but then for some reason, he turned around, walked back up on the business personnel and produced a handgun and fired that shot that fatally wounded the victim,” Myers said.
When police arrived, officers found the owner outside on the ground. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
After the owner was shot, police say a security guard returned fire and hit Bowman in the ankle. Myers said officers followed a blood trail that led them to Bowman and a .45 caliber handgun in the backyard of a home in the 1600 block of Phyllis Avenue.
“So there was a blood trail that literally led us to where the firearm had been hidden, but also where he was,” Myers said.
Bowman was taken to University Hospital, treated for his injury and then booked into Metro Corrections. He’s charged with murder, tampering with physical evidence and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Saturday morning, a judge ordered Bowman’s bond to remain at $100,000 full cash.
