Police captain saves woman who overdosed at Fresno airport while traveling with family
Fresno CA December 26 2019 A woman who overdosed at Fresno Yosemite National Airport on Monday had her life saved with a dose of Narcan that was administered by a police captain, the airport said in a news release.
The Narcan Program at Fresno Yosemite International was launched just last week, when officers began to carry doses of the opioid antidote with their issued equipment, according to the news release.
Police Captain Michael Higgins, who rushed to help the woman Monday, authored the grant and spearheaded the program.
According to the news release, the woman, who was not identified, was traveling with her family when she stopped breathing in the boarding area.
Higgins was one of the first to respond and used the antidote, which is administered nasally. (Naloxone is the medication sold under the brand Narcan.)
