Woman arrested for shoplifting, fighting security guard at Provo mall
PROVO, UT Jan 11 2020 A Payson woman was arrested Thursday for allegedly stealing several items and assaulting a security guard at a Provo mall.
Jordan Dente was seen on security cameras attempting to leave Dillard’s at the Provo Towne Centre mall with a pair of sunglasses she didn’t pay for, according to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office.
A security guard confronted Dente about the allegations outside of the store.
A struggle ensued over the bags Dente had used to conceal the sunglasses. According to a press release, Dente fought the guard while he pushed her back multiple times. The woman then fled the area on foot with bags containing clothes, jewelry, shoes and gift cards belonging to Dillard’s, JC Penny’s Zumiez and Victoria’s Secret. The total amount of items taken from each of the stores was valued under $1,600, according to UCSO.
Dente was identified by her cell phone and a bottle of prescription medication she had left at the scene.
She already has one misdemeanor conviction for retail theft, two misdemeanor A convictions for retail and is a felony out of California wanted for theft.
These prior convictions enhanced the new retail theft charges to third-degree felony charges.
Dente was booked into the Utah County Jail on charges of mail theft, retail theft, failure to stop at the command of a law enforcement officer and robbery, according to UCSO.
