Woman accused of biting security guard during shoplifting
NEW HARTFORD NY Feb 5 2020 — A 50-year-old Utica woman is accused of biting a security guard at Macy’s during an attempted theft, according to law enforcement officials.
Police said Sara A. VanDusen, of Utica, tried to steal four articles of clothing from the Macy’s department store at the Sangertown Square Mall at about 4 p.m. Saturday. Police said a loss prevention officer tried to stop her and VanDusen bit him on the arm. Police said VanDusen also punched the man in the face and neck multiple times during her attempt to escape.
The stolen clothing was valued at $269, according to the law enforcers
Police said VanDusen was able to get away and fled the mall on foot. Police said she was found in a nearby residential neighborhood and was taken into custody.
VanDusen is charged with one count each of third-degree robbery, a class D felony, and second-degree harassment, police stated.
She was arraigned in court and was released on her own recognizance. She is due back in court on Feb. 6.
