Police investigate reported student attack on security guard
POUGHKEEPSIE NY Feb 6 2020 – A security guard outside Poughkeepsie Middle School sustained abrasions to his hands and knees and city police are investigating the circumstances.
Police Chief Thomas Pape said his officers responded to the middle school to investigate a disturbance where they discovered the guard with the abrasions.
Sources tell Mid-Hudson News that following dismissal, a few high school students went to the neighboring middle school and physically assaulted the guard while he was on the middle school property. Chief Pape indicated that an investigation into the incident was pending.
School District Superintendent Dr. Eric Rosser responded to an inquiry via email saying “District officials and law enforcement are working together to investigate this isolated incident. Once the facts are obtained, if it is determined that those involved are students of the Poughkeepsie City School District, appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the District’s Code of Conduct, Education Law 3214, and applicable federal laws. Poughkeepsie City School District values the safety of our staff, students, and parents and will continue to strengthen our collaborative efforts in working with school and community stakeholders to protect our school community.”
