A store security officer at Walmart had a close call on Tuesday evening after a shoplifter pulled a knife on him.
Kingston Police said that at roughly 8:20 p.m., a man entered Walmart with a duffel bag. Soon after, the officer saw the man conceal multiple pieces of merchandise in the bag. The man then went to the exit of the store and left without paying.
The security officer followed the man outside and placed him under arrest for shoplifting. As the officer was escorting the man back into the store, he suddenly pulled away, lifted his shirt and showed the officer a knife he had holstered to his belt.
When the man threatened to use the knife on the officer, the officer restrained him until the police could arrive.
The 28-year-old man was arrested by police and charged with assault with a weapon, assault with the intent to resist arrest, possessing a weapon for committing an offence, uttering threats to cause bodily harm, and theft under $5,000.
He spent the night in police custody to away bail court the next day.
