Stockton mall closes after dozens of teens confront security guard
STOCKTON, Calif. March 14 2020
A Stockton mall closed Thursday afternoon after reports of large groups of teens becoming unruly.
People were asked to leave Sherwood Mall on Pacific Avenue where a 17-year-old was shot and killed Wednesday night.
Dozens of teenagers showed up to pay tribute to their friend Thursday, but when some of the teens started to confront security guards, the mall was closed.
Police say there was a fight in the food court Wednesday night around 8:40 p.m. when two teens were shot.
Anthony Graves died at the scene, and another person was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.
“He was a good kid to my kids, a good kid to his brothers, and his mom. Everything about him was wonderful,” Graves’ brother said.
The mall manager said they welcomed a vigil and worked with the Stockton Police Department.
Police detectives are still investigating, and they have not said if the fight was gang related.
