Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Murdered While Assisting Motorist
Elko County, NV March 27 2020 – A Nevada Highway Patrol trooper was murdered in the line of duty on Friday morning when he stopped to assist a motorist.
Nevada Highway Patrol Northern Command released a statement that said the incident occurred at about 5:54 a.m. on March 27 when the trooper stopped to assist a motorist on U.S. Highway 93 in White Pine County near Ely, KTNV reported.
Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Hannah DeGoey said multiple shots were fired, and the trooper was hit, according to KRXI.
Multiple agencies assisted the Nevada Highway Patrol in the search for the suspect, including the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office helicopter, KRXI reported.
The suspect has been found and was taken into custody, according to police radio traffic.
The Nevada Highway patrol has not released any information about the trooper’s condition, but the Elko Police Department and Eureka County Sheriff’s Office both announced that the wounded hero had died on their official Facebook pages.
Initial radio reports indicated that the trooper’s uniform and vehicle had been stolen by his killer.
