Philadelphia security officer fatally shoots armed man involved in shooting
Philadelphia PA Sept 17 2017 A security officer at a North Philadelphia club shot and killed a gunman who had opened fire on a crowd there Friday night, police said.
The shooting happened just after 11 p.m., police said, at J/F Hookah lounge on the corner of Germantown Avenue and Cumberland Street.
The 30-year-old gunman, who was not identified, began shooting and struck a man and woman in the legs, police said.
The security officer then opened fire, police said, striking the man multiple times.
The victims, a 25-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man, were also treated at Temple and in stable condition.
“Right in front of him he observed this male fire on people that were walking down the street, and that’s how we believe this woman and man were shot in their legs,” said Captain Drew Techner.
The 30-year-old man who was shot by the guard was dropped off by an unknown person at Temple University Hospital where he later died.
The 30-year-old man and 25-year-old woman who were shot in their legs also showed up at the hospital for treatment where they are listed in stable condition.
Police say they recovered a handgun they believe belonged to the man who died.
Authorities say the security guard is cooperating with the investigation.
