3 Charged with arson, firebombing at Chico State campus
CHICO, Calif. June 4 2020— Three people have been arrested in connection to the arson that took place on the Chico State campus on Sunday, May 31.
Around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, three planter boxes were lit on fire on campus property along Normal Avenue.
Then, just before 4:30 a.m., an on-duty Public Safety Dispatcher with the University Police noticed a person lighting a Molotov cocktail and throwing it at a UPD vehicle parked inside the parking structure at 218 Normal Ave.
UPD requested assistance from the FBI Chico field office, to conduct the investigation into three possible suspects.
On June 1, Jesus “Mari” Maria Magana, 21, of Chico, was arrested for three counts of arson. Magana’s bail is set at $150,000.
Clarissa Pauline Volasgis, 20, of Chico, was also arrested on June 1 for possession of an incendiary device with the intent to burn property, and three counts of arson. Volasgis’ bail is set at $700,000.
On June 2, Autumn Nichole Cossins, 20, of Chico, was additionally arrested for three counts of arson. Cossins’ bail is set at $150,000.
The investigation is ongoing.
