Shots fired at Jacksonville mall

The Jacksonville Police Department responded to a report of gunshots being fired at the Jacksonville Mall Friday afternoon.
At approximately 2:24 p.m. JPD responded to a report of shots being fired in the parking lot of the Jacksonville Mall near Belk and J.C. Penny on Western Boulevard, according to Public Affairs Coordinator Beth Purcell. When officers arrived on the scene they found one car was hit by the gun shots, however there were no victims at the scene.
Officers are reviewing the security footage from the mall and conducting interviews. Deputy Chief Ronnie Dorn said the JPD is in the preliminary stages of the investigation and there is no further information to release at this time.
“This is an open investigation, even the smallest bit of information may be of assistance to detectives in this shooting investigation,” added Dorn.
