Broome County NY June 22 2020
A Broome County Security Division peace officer shot his estranged wife Friday night, then turned the gun on himself in Harpursville, according to New York State Police.
Troopers responded just after 10 p.m. to the reported shooting on Light Road, where investigators determined Timothy J. Wilcox, 38, shot 35-year-old Meghan M. Wilcox. Both were hospitalized and remained in critical condition Sunday,
A 16-year-old was at the house when the shooting took place, troopers said, but the teen was not injured. The Broome County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the incident.
An investigation remained active Saturday. Troopers did not say what prompted the shooting.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this tragic time,” the Broome County Executive’s Office and Security Division said in a statement Saturday evening.
Timothy Wilcox was flown to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse and Meghan Wilcox was hospitalized at UHS Wilson Hospital in Johnson City.
New York State Police said more information would be released as the investigation unfolded.
