Natick mall shoplifter violently fights with mall security officers
Natick MA Sept 28 2017 A Connecticut woman violently fought with a Natick Mall store security guard on Monday who tried to stop her after she shoplifted nearly $2,000 worth of clothing, authorities said.
Sarah A. Blunt, 23, punched, bit and then grabbed the Lord & Taylor’s security guard’s genitals and squeezed them in an effort to elude capture, according to a Natick Police report filed in Natick District Court on Tuesday.
The guard told police he watched Blunt gather clothing off the shelf, bundle it into her arms and then leave the store. The guard told police he ordered Blunt to stop.
″(He) said this is when Sarah began to run away from him towards the garage,” police wrote in the report.
The security guard chased Blunt, and they tripped when their legs become entangled. On the ground, they wrestled and Blunt punched and bit the guard several times, according to the report. The guard pinned her arms to the ground to stop her from hitting him.
″(He) explained that Sarah eventually got one of her arms free, reached down and grabbed (his) genitals and squeezed,” police wrote in the report.
Several Natick Mall security guards came to assist, and when police arrived, Blunt was on the ground, handcuffed. The security officer complained of wrist and genital pain, but declined medical treatment.
In all, Blunt stole several pieces of Ralph Lauren brand clothing, including four sweatshirts and sweat pants, one polo shirt and two jackets.
Police charged Blunt, of 62 Winter St., Manchester, with assault and battery and larceny of property worth more than $250.
At Blunt’s Natick District Court arraignment on Tuesday, prosecutor Timothy Cochrane asked Judge Martine Carroll to hold Blunt on $2,000 bail. Blunt had posted $510 bail after her arrest.
Cochrane said Blunt has two open larceny cases out of Connecticut and had previously been convicted of robbery and served a sentence, also in Connecticut.
Blunt’s lawyer, Meryl Kukura, said the robbery was from when Blunt was a juvenile. Also, Blunt has a plea deal in Connecticut for the two larcenies that will result in a split sentence. Blunt, she told the judge, already proved she will come to court.
“If she was a flight risk, she wouldn’t have bothered showing up today,” Kukura said.
Carroll did not increase the bail, keeping it at the $510 Blunt previously posted. Blunt is due back in court on Nov. 6 for a pretrial conference.
