Veteran police officer suffers fatal heart attack while working at NYPD headquarters
New York City NY June 29 2020 A veteran NYPD officer suffered a fatal heart attack while working at police headquarters in downtown Manhattan Saturday night.
Officer James Hughes, 59, who’s normally assigned to Transit District 33 in Brooklyn, was working a headquarters security shift at One Police Plaza when he started to feel chest pains about 9 p.m., police officials said. He died at an area hospital.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of Police Officer James Hughes who passed away last night while working @ 1 Police Plaza,” NYPD Patrol Borough Manhattan South tweeted Sunday. “Please keep the Hughes family in your prayers.”
Hughes joined the NYPD in January 1986.
