Security booth at LDS Training Center shot up
Provo UT Aug 9 2020 police are looking for a shooter who fired several bullets at the Missionary Training Center early Monday morning.
The drive-by shooting at 2:28 a.m left at least four bullet holes in the glass of the main security booth, which was not occupied at the time, according to police. There were no injuries at the facility, which is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Police said a white SUV drove by the MTC on 900 East in Provo and someone inside fired “multiple rounds” at the security booth. Bullet casings were found in the road.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, there are no missionaries at the Provo MTC, the faith’s flagship facility for preparing its prospective proselytizers; all training is taking place online. There may be some staffers on-site, however, who are leading their virtual lessons from the facility.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Detective Campbell with the Provo Police, at rcampbell@provo.org or 801-852-7315.
