A former Wilkes-Barre man who was caught with heroin and cocaine at Mount Airy Lodge Casino and indicted in a separate drug case in Luzerne County will spend 12 years in prison, a federal judge in Scranton has decided.
The Mount Airy Lodge Casino case against Jesse Carey, 33, stemmed from incident in August 2017 when Carey was detained by casino security after showing fake identification.
Casino security found Carey was carrying about 47 grams of cocaine and 29 packets of heroin for further distribution, a scale and $9,777, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said Thursday.
In another drug case, a federal grand jury indicted Carey for drug trafficking after a separate incident on January 12, 2017, in Plymouth Borough, Luzerne County, in which Carey was arrested after he was found with 14 grams of cocaine, about 80 doses of heroin and more than $2,000, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
Carey was on probation for a previous offense when he committed the federal offenses, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
The cases were investigated by the FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force and the Pennsylvania state police, among others.
