INCIDENT DETAILS
Cause Drowned
Ranger Brendan Unitt drowned when he was thrown from his patrol boat while searching for a missing boater on Horsetooth Reservoir at about 9:30 pm.
Other boaters called authorities when they discovered Ranger Unitt’s boat adrift on the reservoir. His body was located at approximately 3:30 am the following morning. It is believed he was thrown from the boat when he encountered extremely strong winds gusting at more than 30 mph.
Ranger Unitt had served with the Larimer County Department of Natural Resources for six months.
