Wellington man flashes bail bondsman badge in road-rage incident
BOYNTON BEACH FL Oct 4 2017
A Wellington man is accused of flashing his bail bondsman badge in a Boynton Beach road-rage incident Saturday evening, city police records state.
David Kroupa II, 35, was arrested on multiple aggravated assault, armed burglary and fraud charges. The fraud charges stem from allegedly impersonating an official. He was being held Monday afternoon in the Palm Beach County Jail on a $35,000 bond.
Kroupa said he was driving west on Boynton Beach Boulevard from North Congress Avenue when he saw another vehicle driving recklessly. The car cut him off, Kroupa said, and he motioned for them to pull over.
The driver and passenger in the other car told authorities Kroupa was the reckless driver.
They said that at Northwest Eighth Street and West Boynton Beach Boulevard, Kroupa stepped out of a white Nissan Versa and banged on the driver’s side window of the other car, ordering the driver to step out.
They told police Kroupa had a pistol in his waistband. Kroupa told authorities he keeps a “starter” pistol, often used at track-and-field meets or swimming races, in his car, but he denied having it on his person during the confrontation.
Kroupa returned to his car and followed the other driver east on Boynton Beach Boulevard, records state. He repeatedly tried to ram the other car. They continued on to Federal Highway. Kroupa again exited his car near East Ocean Avenue and flashed his bail bondsman badge from a chain around his neck, records state.
He told authorities he did so because he was angry.
He tried to get into the other car, the driver told police, and had his hand on the pistol while he did. Both the driver and his passenger told police they feared for their lives.
Officers pulled Kroupa over on Federal Highway. He kept fidgeting, despite officers’ orders to not reach for anything. Authorities ordered him out of the car and handcuffed him.
