Due to coronavirus, company offers online training for security guards
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Aug 30 2020— At a time when there are millions of people out of work due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, one Staten Islander is hoping he can make training for budding security guards easy with online courses.
Due to coronavirus, Dahlcore Security Services has been authorized by the state Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) to conduct classes online, he said.
“When I was on active duty in the U.S. Coast Guard, our operational environment was always changing,” said Ian Dahlberg, owner of Dahlcore Security Services in Tomkinsville.
“Our job was to adapt to that environment so we could complete our mission. COVID-19 is just another operational environment that we have to adapt to at Dahlcore. With the utilization of new security operation procedures and online capabilities, we are able to fulfill our mission, both with our security guard agency and security guard school,” added Dahlberg, who started off in the U.S Coast Guard as a Federal Boarding Officer at the elite Anti-Terrorism and Law Enforcement Unit MSST 91106.
Dahlcore said he is offering three required courses for unarmed guards in training:
Eight Hour Pre-Assignment Training Course: This is a general introductory course. Upon successful completion of this course, the guard is issued a training certificate. This certificate must accompany the security guard’s registration application when submitted to the Department of State. Once the application is submitted, the guard has 90 days to complete the second training course.
16 Hour On-the-Job Training Course (OJT): This training program should be relevant to the guard’s duties, requirements of the work site, and the needs of the employer. Schools may conduct this training in an approved classroom setting or at an approved work site, which is conducive to learning.
Eight Hour Annual In-Service Course: This training must be completed each calendar year following completion of the 16 Hour OJT course. This program is designed to meet current training needs and refresh or update guards in changes in the security field. Guards must complete this course as a prerequisite for renewal of their guard registration.
