Pa. man, 21, slapped with 88-year sentence for rape, sexual assault at his mom’s day care
Allegheny County PA Sept 5 2020 A 21-year-old will spend most of his future in prison after robbing the innocence from children at his mom’s in-home day care.
As TribLive and KDKA-TV report, David Tyus, 21, was found guilty by an Allegheny County jury in March of rape and other sexual assault charges stemming from his mother’s in-home day care in Pittsburgh.
On Wednesday, Tyus learned his fate in the case.
Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Jill E. Rangos slapped Tyus with a sentence of 44 to 88 years in state prison.
Police said Tyus sexually assaulted children attending the Friendships Play House day care, as well as a 17-year-old girl who was in the house when no small children were present.
Detectives said Tyus admitted to being alone with the children, kissing the girls on the lips, necks and foreheads and tickling them while they sat on his lap. He also admitted to having sexual contact with a woman while the children were present.
Police said Tyus also brought a 17-year-old girl he met at a library back to his mother’s home when nobody else was there, then forced himself on her.
His mother, Victoria Tyus, pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of children in July 2019 for leaving the children in her care alone with her son, who lacked required clearances.
She was sentenced to probation in the case.
