Chicago Public Schools’ security officers to go knocking on absentee students’ doors
Chicago IL Sept 15 2020 Chicago Public Schools (CPS) announced that 84.2% of students at district schools attended remote learning classes on the first day of class on Tuesday of last week, a decline from past years that officials said was due to COVID-19 and the district’s move to e-learning to start the semester.
Though CPS CEO, Dr. Janice K. Jackson said that attendance rates have steadily increased since last week, school security officers will visit homes of students that schools have been unable to contact. Chicago public schools are conducting remote learning this Fall due to the coronavirus pandemic, and officials expect that some absences are due to internet or technology issues or lack of necessary resources.
According to CPS, CPS security officers have been specially trained on how to conduct home visits in preparation for returning to school.
