Officer Chris Gomez recipient of Private Officer Officer International Heroism Award
CHARLOTTE NC Sept 30 2020 Chris Gomez, a private security officer employed with Valiant Private Security in San Jose California, is the recipient of the Private Officer International Security Officer Heroism Award.
Earlier this year while on mobile patrol of a shopping center, Gomez spotted a vehicle with
an adult male and a young girl parked to the rear of a building and it just did not look right officer Gomez said.
So, with his decisive actions and a compassionate heart, Officer Gomez moved closer to investigate and was able to thwart a sexual assault and take a predator off the street local police said.
According to a local media report, Gomez said he was in the back portion of a parking lot at a shopping center when he noticed a suspicious vehicle. Approaching the vehicle, he found a 70-year-old man and 13-year-old girl in the back seat. When Gomez asked the girl if she was ok, she gave him a blank stare and then said no.
Gomez then acted swiftly, not knowing if the man was armed.
“I drew my weapon and I had the guy get out of the car. I had to act quick because I didn’t know if he had any weapons in the car or if the young girl was in danger at that point,” Gomez said.
Police arrived and took the man detained by officer Gomez into custody and the young girl as later reunited with her family.
An alert professionally trained private officer was able to stop something really bad from happening said the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Private Officer International, Rick McCann. Who knows what would have happened had the security officer just drove by and thought nothing of it instead of stopping and investigating what he believed to be suspicious activity.
He never second guessed himself and when he realized a possible serious crime was afoot, he immediately took the possible suspect into custody and saved the young girl from harm. That’s a hero McCann said.
