NASHVILLE, Tenn. Oct 10 2017
An unarmed security officer shot during a robbery is in critical condition.
Nashville emergency crews responded to the scene of the robbery and found that the security officer had been shot in the chest inside the Rite Aid early Monday morning.
The pharmacy is located near Centenntial Park, in the 2410 block of West End Avenue.
Both Vanderbilt University police and Metro Nashville police responded to the shooting.
Police said the gunman entered the store about 4 a.m. Monday with a bandanna on his face and approached three employees, one of whom was a security guard.
The suspect demanded money, shot the security officer in the chest and fled on foot.
The victim was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where they are undergoing surgery.
Police said the shooter is on the run.
Vanderbilt University Police said they didn’t send an alert to students because the suspect fled in the opposite direction and there is no threat to the school.
The store is closed until further notice.
