Alert security ofifcer helps police round up two burglars
COLUMBUS, Ind. Dec 5 2020– Two men were arrested for attempted burglary after they were supposedly seen inside a Columbus storage facility with bolt cutters on Wednesday night. The Columbus Police Department (CPD) was called to Storage Express, at 4072 North Indianapolis Rd., at around 11:30 p.m., after a security officer spotted two men inside the property carrying bolt cutters.
The security guard told police dispatch that he did not see the men enter the facility through the front gate.
After officers arrived, they found a hole that was cut in the facility’s fence and reportedly saw two men running away. Police set up a perimeter and soon located James Kapetanios, 31, of Columbus. The second suspect, Matthew Herron, 39, of Columbus, was also apprehended with the assistance of a CPD K-9. Herron allegedly had a pair of bolt cutters.
Both Herron and Kapetanios were taken to Bartholomew County Jail and booked for attempted burglary and trespass. Kapetanios is also facing an additional charge of possession of a syringe.
