Arizona State University police officer killed in traffic collision

The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating a crash that killed a Arizona State University police officer Thursday morning.
The officer has been identified by ASU police as Ofc. Joseph Montgomery, a 13-year veteran of the department. He is survived by his wife and four children.
The crash happened around 8:30 a.m. near Loop 101 and University Drive in Tempe. Video from a freeway camera in the area showed the University Drive off-ramp closed on the northbound Loop 101.
Details surrounding the crash are unknown at this time. It’s not known of Ofc. Montgomery was on duty at the time of the crash.

Dozens of law enforcement members paid their respects to the fallen officer as he was transported from Banner Desert Hospital.
