Mall security, police coordinate efforts to nab jewelry store burglars
TULSA, Okla. Jan 22 2021— Tulsa police are investigating after an overnight jewelry store burglary took place at the Promenade Mall.
Police said mall security watching cameras caught two men breaking windows and going into the mall early Tuesday morning. So, mall security contacted Tulsa police.
The men went to Abby’s Jewelry and smashed cases and grabbed merchandise.
Security continued surveillance while communicating with law enforcement.
Both men left the mall after the burglary, headed towards a nearby McDonald’s.
Police said the two suspects got into a car and led police on a short chase.
The chase ended at the Extended Stay America near 31st and Memorial and police took both men into custody.
Police arrested Clayton Randolph and Derrick Lamar Jones. Both men are charged with second degree burglary, possession of burglary tools and possession of stolen property.
Clayton Randolph has a long history of being a jewel thief, dating back to the 1990s.
Captain Craig Eicher with the Pleasanton California Police Department arrested Randolph in 1999.
“That is definitely the Clayton Randolph I arrested,” Eicher said. “His beard wasn’t gray back then.”
Randolph was part of a group of jewel thieves known as the “Three Minute Gang.” They were suspected of targeting jewelry stores inside malls across several states.
DNA from broken glass at one of the burglaries led investigators to one of the suspects, which cracked a five year crime spree.
The owner of the store, Abby Alhlou recovered all the stolen jewelry from Tulsa police.
“I was surprised because a lot of times people stole from me and I never got nothing,” Alhlou said. “So, I’m very proud of the Tulsa police this time.”
