Three charged after alleged attack at AtlantiCare facility
GALLOWAY NJ March 7 2021 – Three people face charges in connection with an alleged attack on an employee at a hospital here, police say.
The suspects — Jessenia Bilboat, 26, and Julius DeJesus, 18, both of Galloway, and Charles Key III of Egg Harbor Township — were arrested after a Feb. 19 incident at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Mainland Division, according to Galloway police.
A probable cause statement for Bilboat’s arrest alleges she entered a locked area of the hospital with assistance from Key, an AtlantiCare employee.
The statement alleges Key led Bilboat to the victim, a nurse technician, in a locked portion of the hospital “not open to the public at the time.”
Bilboat allegedly struck the victim several times “in the face and lips” while the employee was on duty on the hospital’s third floor, the statement says.
The statement also alleges Bilboat swung a folding knife at the victim, “forcing her to retreat into a hospital room.”
The victim sustained minor injuries, the statement says.
Jennifer Tornetta, a spokesperson for the health care system, said, “AtlantiCare Security continues to work in collaboration with local law enforcement in investigating the facts of the case and will support investigators through the judicial process.”
The probable cause statement describes Bilboat as Key’s girlfriend and says the victim was Key’s ex-girlfriend.
Bilboat was arrested after allegedly fleeing the hospital.
Investigators reviewed hospital security video of the incident, as well as statements “from security personnel and nursing staff,” it says.
Each of the suspects is charged with aggravated assault, assault on a health care worker and conspiracy, police said.
Court records do not specify the alleged role of DeJesus in the incident, but note he was additionally charged with hindering after giving police a false birth date that would have made him a juvenile.
Police also have charged Bilboat with weapons offenses.
