Washington County deputy dies in struggle with detainee
WASHINGTON COUNTY OK March 27 2021 An officer from Washington County was killed on Thursday afternoon after an altercation with a suspect occurred.
Officers arrested 17 people on Thursday morning on drug-related charges in Washington County.
According to reports, one of the subjects arrested became uncooperative after being brought to the Washington County Detention Center.
Officials say the person became resistive and violent toward detention staff, resulting in an altercation with an officer.
The officer, a Deputy Sheriff for the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, was injured in the altercation.
The Deputy was taken to the Jane Philips Emergency Room, where he succumbed to his wounds.
Authorities say the deputy was in his mid-thirties, a husband, and a father-of-two.
This is an ongoing investigation lead by the OSBI.
