Man arrested more than 200 times now charged with attacks on St. Thomas Midtown staff
NASHVILLE, Tenn. April 15 2021 A man who has been arrested more than 200 times now faces charges for what Metro Police call “random attacks” Wednesday morning on six staff members of St. Thomas Midtown.
Investigators say Larry Brown, 67, received treatment at St. Thomas Midtown and had been discharged but refused to leave the hospital.
After Brown was escorted off the property, Metro Police say he went into the parking garage on 20th Ave. North and rode the elevator up and down, randomly assaulting five women, all St. Thomas staff members. Brown is accused of punching the women in the face.
A St. Thomas security guard searching for Brown found him in a stairwell of the parking garage on the sixth floor. From there, police say Brown punched him in the head before he was taken into custody.
The hospital says they are sad to confirm that several employees were assaulted in the parking garage elevator Wednesday morning. Four were treated for injuries and released from the hospital.
As a result of the attacks, a St. Thomas representative tells FOX 17 News the hospital has upped security measures.
“The safety of our associates and patients is of the utmost importance to us,” A St. Thomas Midtown representative said. “Increased security measures have been put in place. Additionally, MNPD will continue to provide an officer in our Emergency Department daily from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. and our security surveillance in the parking garages will continue 24/7. We will also continue to make security available to escort our associates to and from their vehicles as we evaluate additional preventative measures to ensure safety.”
According to Metro Police, Brown has been arrested more than 200 times since 1975. He has been charged with assault multiple times. In 2019, he was convicted of assaulting a female health care provider for hitting and pushing a fire department medic during his transport in an ambulance.
Investigators have shared that additional victims from Wednesday morning’s attacks at the hospital have come forward. Their cases are still under investigation, but authorities say more charges against Brown are likely. A judicial commissioner set Brown’s bond at $30,000.
