Fayetteville security guard recovering after being shot in the head
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. May 15 2021— Charles Jackson Jr., 50, is recovering after being shot at Phat Daddy’s restaurant in Fayetteville on April 8.
“I got shot twice. Once in the back of the head,” Jackson said. The bullet came out of his left eye, barely missing his brain.
The security guard was shot while breaking up a fight between two groups of people — one wearing masks, and one not.
Security camera footage obtained by WRAL News shows a group of masked patrons following a group of unmasked people into the parking lot of the bar. Both parties drew guns.
Will Francis, 29, was charged with attempted first-degree murder and injury to personal property. He was in the bar that night celebrating his promotion to Sgt. First Class in a group of unmasked people.
Francis was seen walking, gun in hand, to a Mercedes SUV, getting in and driving off. Others from both groups also drove away after the shooting.
Charles Jackson had to have multiple surgeries since the shooting, including on his eye.
“Chuck was more than a security guard to me. He was like my brother,” said Kenneth Clark, owner of Phat Daddy’s. “He is retired military, a Marine, and just cared about people. He is a God-fearing man, loved his family and loved the people he worked with. So, when something happens to a good guy like that, it’s weighing heavy on my heart.”
Jackson had to have multiple surgeries since the shooting, including on his eye.
“It looks like I had a stroke,” Jackson said. He’s lost all feeling on his right side. Since the shooting, Jackson has also lost about 100 pounds.
“I had to learn how to walk,” he said. “I’m doing OK with that but I still haven’t got my balance yet.”
Jackson is still fighting to get better so he can return to his wife and five children.
